An authentic vintage Kesatria Mangku Negara (K.M.N.) medal, representing the Officer rank of the Most Esteemed Order of the Defender of the Realm (Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negara). Instituted on August 9, 1958, this prestigious Malaysian federal award is granted for meritorious service to the country.
Design & Craftsmanship
The Badge: An elegant 11-pointed star finished in brilliant white enamel, with beautifully detailed stars and crescent moons resting between each point.
The Medallion: The centerpiece features the Malaysian Royal Crown. It is bordered by a white band bearing the Order's motto in both Latin and Jawi script: "DI-PELIHARAKAN ALLAH - PANGKUAN NEGARA", translating to "By the Grace of God - Defender of the Realm".
The Ribbon & Insignia: Suspended from a dark blue ribbon featuring yellow edges and a central red-and-white stripe. Notably, it retains its original circular clasp enclosing a downward-pointing kris (traditional Malay dagger), which is the distinctive insignia that identifies this as the Officer (K.M.N.) rank.
"T&S" This is the Maker's Mark. It stands for Turner & Simpson, a highly respected silversmith and medal-making firm based in Birmingham, England, known for producing many official government and royal honors.
The Three Symbols This is the official assay hallmark row, confirming the silver content and origin:
The Anchor (Left): This is the town mark for Birmingham, England, indicating which assay office tested the metal.
The Lion Passant (Center): The walking lion is the traditional British mark that guarantees the medal is officially certified as solid .925 Sterling Silver.
The Letter (Right): This is the Date Letter, which changes every year to denote when the piece was hallmarked. While slightly worn, it appears to be a stylized capital letter (likely an 'R' or 'P'), which accurately dates the manufacture of this specific piece to the mid-1960s (e.g., 1964 or 1966).
