方楚雄 （ Chuxiong Fang ）

Fang Chuxiong (born October 1950) is a native of Puning , Guangdong, born in Shantou City . He graduated from the Department of Chinese Painting, The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts . He is currently a professor and master's supervisor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, a Member of the China Artists Association, Honorary Vice President of the Guangdong Chinese Painting Society, Standing Council Member of the Guangdong Artists Association, a part-time professor at Jinan University , a researcher at the Calligraphy and Painting Institute of the Central Research Institute of Culture and History, a member of the Research Institute of Culture and History of Guangdong Provincial People's Government, and an Expert Receiving Special Allowance from the State Council. His bird-and-flower paintings blend the Lingnan Painting School with the tradition of Song dynasty painters. His works are collected by institutions such as the Great Hall of the People, Zhongnanhai, and the Diayutai State Guesthouse . In 2020, he ranked 20th on the Hurun China Art List with a total auction turnover of 31.94 million yuan.

Fang Chuxiong began learning painting from Wang Lanruo and Liu Changchao at the age of six. He graduated from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1978 and remained there to teach. He once traveled to Dunhuang to study murals. Since 1980, he has held dozens of solo exhibitions in countries such as Australia and New Zealand. His works were consecutively selected for the 6th to 11th National Art Exhibitions, with Hometown Water and Cocoa selected for the 6th National Art Exhibition and the Centennial Chinese Painting Exhibition respectively. In 1997, he was named one of the Hundred Outstanding Chinese Painters. He received the Huang Binhong Award in 2004 and the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Teaching Master Award in 2011. In 2021, the "Heaven and Earth Creatures" Art Retrospective Exhibition was held at the Guangdong Museum of Art , displaying over 120 of his works created over more than sixty years of his artistic career.
